At the CPR Train Station Museum one can revisit the history of Castlegar commuting, which required trains, paddle wheelers and steamboats. This museum is housed in the original CPR buliding which was contructed in 1902 and is one of the best preserved in the province! Forming the nucleus of the City of Castlegar, the facility not only established Castlegar as the true crossroads of the Kootenays but also served as the unofficial town centre.

Enjoy an afternoon walk along the Waldie Island Heritage Trail, located just outside Castlegar along Robson Access Road. This 1.5km trail is maintained by the Castlegar Friends of Parks and Trails and features local historical artifacts and information boards. Waldie Island Trail is situated in a Heron wildlife reserve so dogs must be on a leash at all times.
